Kurseong

Kurseong is the town of white orchids. It is situated with an altitude of 1458 meter from the sea level and on the way of Siliguri to Darjeeling Toy train route, just 30 kilometers ahead from the Queen of Himalayas, Darjeeling. There has each and every potential to be a famous tourist destination, but due to the adjoin town Darjeeling, it does not. Kurseong is a quiet and less crowded town and if you want to take a test of hill station with a peaceful environment then yes! it is the right place for you. The name Kurseongcomes from a Nepali word Kharshang, means the Dawn's Pole Star, due to the environment, peacefulness and people, it is the excellent name for the town. A natural lover spends all days without any hesitation. The town is totally surrounded by many tea estates, some of them are world famous. The world most expensive tea is produced from this town. From the several viewpoint at Kurseong, you can take an amazing look of the downwards plain and the carpet like tea gardens around the town.

Eagle’s Craig viewpoint : All viewpoints at any hill station are basically famous for the marvelous view of any mountain and mountain range, but Eagle's Crain is totally different with all others – it is a viewpoint, from where you can take an unbeaten panoramic view of Siliguri plains as well as surrounding hills and an amazing view of the Teesta river and the dense evergreen forest in Darjeelingvalley.

During the summer, in the evening time, one can sit here after forget all about the time to watch the beauty of the lighting in Siliguri town. Also the sunset from this viewpoint is another unforgettable experience to any visitors. It is located just one kilometer upwards from the Kurseoung railway station. Apart from the watch tower, there has a cafeteria and a very beautiful flower garden with several types of orchids.

Dow Hill : Dow Hill is situated just one kilometer away from the Kurseong main town. It is a well developed and must-see tourist destination in Kurseong town. From where you can take a marvelous look of the plains, forests and surrounding tea estates. A Deer Park, a Forest Museum, a mini amusement Park and a water reservoir – all are set on the top of the Dow Hill, which make the destination most valuable to visit.

Dow Hill's Girls School : A very beautiful architecture of the British era which are surrounding with the evergreen forests mainly pine trees make the school awesome to the tourists, is situated on the top of the Dow Hill and provides an excellent quality of educations.

Giddapahar viewpoint and Temple : Giddapahar view point is situated near about 2 kilometers away from the main town, it is a viewpoint mainly for the Himalayas mountain range and it is also a very good photo shooting spot to the photographers. A Siva temple located here on Hill Cart Road. A Durga temple also located in the Giddapahar, it is a very good architecture of ancient rocks. Both temples are sacred places to the Hindus.

Netaji House : It was the house of the elder brother of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. And now it has to be turn into the Netaji Museum with a healthy collection of documents and articles about Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. It is situated on the top of Giddapahar, 4 kilometers distance from the Kurseong railway station.

St. Mary's Hill : It is situated nearly 4 kilometers from Kurseong Railway Station surrounded by pine forests. There had a St. Mary's seminary, now is know as Eastern Forest Rangers' College (EFRC). There also has a statue of Jesus and virgin Mary. A newly built Jt. John's Church is located near by the collage, it is also famous to the visitors.

Bagora : Top most altitude of the Kurseong, it is known as zero point. There has a base camp oof Indian Air Force and also has a helipad for used them.

Bhangzang Salamander Lake : You can take a drive for 14 kilometer from Kurseong to reach at Bhangzang Salamander Lake. It is another excelance of the beauty of Kurseong town which is totally covered by the evergreen forests.

Tea Estates : Kurseong is also known as tea plantation town. The most expensive tea in the World, which is produced by the Castleton Tea Estate is located at the near by surrounding are of the Dow Hill. Makaibari Tea Estate is another famous tea garden in the Kurseong region - with a permission, you can visit in the garden and tea factory. Apart from that Ambrosia, Springside, Jogmaya, Ghoomtee stretch across the hill station are very popular tea estates at Kurseong.
