All about Fort Aguada, Goa
Fort Aguada was constructed during 1612 AD on the bank of Mandovi River (near Sinquerim Beach) to protect the attack of sea enemy or Harmad. It is one of the oldest and largest Goa forts by Portuguese located about 17 km away from Panaji, the capital city of Goa. The fort is visited by large tourists throughout the year. The Church of St Lawrence situated nearby is another reason for visiting this place.
The Portuguese word, Aguada means water. The name of the Fort was derived from the presence of many fresh water springs which were a first source of drinking water for ships arriving in Goa after a along journey. The fort has a four storey Portuguese lighthouse erected in 1864 and is the oldest of its kind in Asia. A part of the fort has been transformed into central jail.

Travel by Airway: There have only one Airport in Goa located at Dabolim just 4 km away from Vasco Da Gama City and about 31 km away from the capital city, Panaji. It is an international airport and the available international flights from Qatar, Dubai, Sharjah, Kuwait, Britain, Germany, Netherlands, Russia, etc. Major cities of India are also connected to Dabolim Airport of Goa with regular flights. distance between Aguada Fort to Goa airport is about 46 km. After reaching Goa Airport you can easily reach at Aguada forts with a car.
Travel by Roadway: The roadway network of Goa is well-connected with two national highways (NH-17 and NH-4A) and state highways (about 231 km long). The state is directly connected to Mumbai and Mangalore with NH-17. State Government provides lots of buses to communications to the major cities of India. The Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) is under Goa Government. Panaji Bus station located just 16 km away from Aguada Fort. You can easily hire a private taxi or travel by a root bus. Travel by Railway: There have 2 entries in Goa with rail travel; first one is the South Western Railway and another is the Konkan Railway. Vasco Da Gama and Margao are two major railway stations in the state. Vasco Da Gama Railway Station is located on the South Western Railway zone and the Margao Railway Station located on Konkan Railway zone. There have daily train from Mumbai, via Miraj and Pune witch take around 9 hours to reach. Nearest railway station of Aguada Fort located just 14 km away.
Travel by Seaway
You can also reach at Mormugao which is about 35 km Panaji by water way from Mumbai sea port. But, this service is not regular; especially it is operated during tour season in winter. This port is about 501 years old and it also has a great historical value. After reaching to the port you can easily go Aguada Fort with a Bus or private Taxi.
