Government of Tamil Naru has created two Biosphere Reserves, five National Parks and several Wildlife Sanctuaries to protect the flora and fauna of the state. Some of them are Mudumalai National Park, The Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve, Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park, Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary and Arignar Anna Zoological Park.
You will found here more over 2000 species of wildlife which are native to the state. And a variety of mammals and birds like Elephants, Tigers, Leopard, Sloth bears, Gaurs, Lion, Grizzled Giant Squirrels, deer and birds- Cormorants, Darters, Herons, Egrets, Storks, Spoonbills, Ibises, Little Grebes, Moorhen, Pelicans, Dugongs, Turtles and Dolphins.
