Meghalaya is the perfect destination for nature lover. This state is an address of several adventure tourism opportunities including the mountaineering, rock climbing, trekking and water sporting. Besides of these, you will found here several beautiful waterfalls, mountain caves, lakes and superb greenery views.
Near about one half of the state area is covered with forest including two National parks and three wildlife sanctuaries. These are the Nongkhyllem Wildlife Sanctuary, Siju Wildlife Sanctuary, the Bhagmara Wildlife Sanctuary, Balpakram National Park and Nokrek National Park.
The major falls of Meghalaya are the Elephant, Shadthum, Weinia, Bishop, Nohkalikai, Langshiang and the Sweet waterfall. These waterfalls produce several lakes or rivers. Umiam Lake is an attractive tourist point of the state which pulls the attention of many tourists.
Some other attractions of the state are several natural limestones and sandstone caves (Krem Liat Prah, longest cave and placed on Jaintia Hills), the Nongkhnum Island of West Khasi Hills (2nd biggest in Asia), Mawlynnong village (feamous for its cleanest placed 90 km from shillong) and lots of parks like Thangkharang Park, the Eco-park, the Botanical Garden and Lady Hydari Park.
The main destination city of Meghalaya is the Shillong capital city. Dawki is the entry path from neighboring country Bangladesh. It placed 95 km from Shillong. Other destination towns are Williamnagar, Resubelpara, Jowai, Nongpoh, Baghmara, Tura and Nongstoin.

Travel by Train
There have no train services in the state. The nearest railway station is 128km away in Guwahati city of Assam state. Taxi, Sumo or any passenger car services available here to Meghalaya Shilong city.
Travel by Road
National Highway NH-40 connected the state to Guwahati. This highway is connected to several state roadways of major cities of Meghalaya. Road communication is not so well in the state due to the complex landforms and hilly regions.
Travel by Air
If you planned to go Meghalaya by airways then you have reach at Guwahati first, because there have no airport in Meghalaya. Airport of Guwahati is 128 km away from the capital of Meghalaya (Shilong town). After that you can hire a Taxi, Sumo or any passenger car. Helicopter services are also available here to Meghalaya.
