About Lakshadweep Union TerritoryLakshadweep, literally means "an island built with hundred thousands of Small Island", is located to the most south west part on the Arabian Sea. It is the smallest Union Territory in India with an area of 32 sq km. It previously called as Laccadive, Minicoy, and Amindivi Islands. Lakshadweep is the one of the world's most beautiful snow white coral sands island systems. This island is divided into three groups namely Amindivi group islands, Laccadive group islands and Minicoy group Islands. These three groups contain thirty-six small islands among them Kavaratti Island is most important with the administrative headquarter Kavaratti city. Some other major islands of Lakshadweep are Agatti, Amini, Andrott, Bitra, Chetlat, Kadmat, Kalpeni, Kiltan and Minicoy Island. Above mention islands are inhabited but rest islands are unoccupied.
