Hawa Mahal of Jaipur
Hawa Mahal, means the Palace of Winds, was constructed in 1799 ad by the king Sawai Pratap Singh who belongs to the Kachwaha Rajput clan. It is placed near Jaipur City complex aside by the Badi Chaupad (big four square) and just 12 km away from Jaipur International Airport.
The builder of Jaypur city (1727 ad) Sawai Jai singh and his family initially used the palace as a hot weather retreat during the summer season due to its 953 small windows which produces cool wind and these windows also allowed the ladies of the royal families (as they were detached from outer world) to observe everyday life of Jaypur city peoples and the nature of the city.
Architecture of Hawa Mahal
The design of Hawa Mahal was created by the architect Lal Chand Usta, the designer of the Jaipur City. It is a five- storey pyramidal shaped monument and standing with a height of 50 ft. It is basically made of with red and pink colored sand stone. The main attraction of the palace is 953 windows which are locally called as Jharokhas. The architectural of the palace reflects the traditions of Hindu Rajput architecture and the Islamic Mughal architecture. This monument was reconstructed in 2005 by the state government of Rajasthan with an estimated cost of Rs 45 lakhs.
