Jamshedpur, Tatanagar or Steel City
Previously, Jamshedpur was a small village, known as Sakchi. A great industrialist, Jamshedji Tata, developed this small village into a planned industrial city. And it renamed as Jamshedpur City in 1919 to the respect of the founder of the city, Jamshedji Tata. Now, several branches of Tata Group like Tata Steel, Tata Motors, HVAL, HVTL, Telcon, Tata Power, Jusco, Tata Cumins, Tata Robins Frazer, Tata bearing, Tayo, Tata Tubes Division, Tinplate, Tata Agrico, Tata Pigments are planted here. Due to this intense effectiveness of Tata Group here, the city is often called as Steel City, Tatanagar or simply Tata.
Jamshedpur is located in the southern end of Jharkhand in Singhbhum district. It serves as the administrative headquarters of Singhbhum district. The city is on the Chota Nagpur plateau maintains an average elevation of 140 meters and it is bordered by the states of Orissa and West Bengal. Jamshedpur is the largest city in Jharkhand with an area of 149.2 sq km, where 629,660 people reside in the city, as of 2011 census report. Jamshedpur is a hilly region and it surrounded with the Dalma Hills running from west to east and covered with dense forests. The other smaller hill ranges near the city are Ukam Hill and the Jadugoda Musabani hill range.

Jubilee Park covers an area of 237.75 acres. The beautiful Jubilee Park was offered to the native inhabitants of Jamshedpur by the Tata Steel Company to celebrate the completion of 50 glorious years of establishment of the city. This spot is very popular for picnicking; you can also spend some time here with your family and friends. The Jubilee Park takes a festive look on the birth anniversary of Jamshedji Tata.
Dimna Lake is an artificial reservoir located on a height above of 3001 ft from mean sea level in Dalma Hill about 12 km away from Jamshedpur. The Lake provides you several opportunities of water sports like jet skiing, rowing and water scooting. It also supplies the drinking waters to the city. The Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary is another attraction adjoining to this lake. It is house of several wild animals like barking deer, leopards, sloth bears, elephants, porcupines and tigers. A temple of Lord Shiva also situated on this hill.
Sri Dorabji Tata Park of Jamshedpur lies near the Keenan Stadium of the city. This park derived its name from Sri Dorabji Tata, son of Jamshedji Tata. You can easily reach to this park from any part of Jamshedpur. Usually, the local visitors gather here to spend their weekend holidays.
Hudco Lake is one of the best tourist attractions in Jamshedpur. The Sumant Mulgaonkar Park is situated adjacent to this lake and it added an extra attraction for travelers.
Domohani, the meeting point of two local rivers namely Subarnarekha and Kharkhai, is a popular tourist spot in Jamshedpur situated at the north western corner of the city.
Keenan Stadium was constructed in 1939 by Mr. JRD Tata. This stadium built in the memory of Mr John Lawrence Keenan who was a worker of Tata group for 25 years.
JRD TATA Sports Complex is located in Jamshedpur in the state of Jharkhand. This complex is one of the most modern and best in India.
Tata Football Academy was established in Jamshedpur in the year 1987 to trains best players of the city. There have also a swimming pool inside it.
Some other tour spots in and around Jamshedpur are Tata Steel Zoological Park, Chandil dam, Centre for Excellence, Bhuvneswari temple and Ghatshila (40 km).

There is an airport in Jamshedpur, name Sonari airport, but it not operates commercial flights, it usually constructed by Tata Group to handle their business related necessities. If you plan to visit Jamshedpur by airways then the airport of Ranchi will be closer sitiuated about 148 km away from Jamshedpur. After reaching Ranchi you can easily trip to this city with a train or bus. Nearest international airport of the city is located at Kolkata about 260 km away.
