Deoghar, the city of Baidyanath Dham
Deoghar, literally means “the abode of Gods” (Deo > Dev - Gods and Ghar - abode), has a different significance in the state tourist map of Jharkhand for its magnificent natural beauty and Hindu pilgrimage site. It is one of the oldest Hindu pilgrimage centres in India, where religion and myth come together. Deoghar is also famous for its social and cultural identity, so it is known as the cultural capital of Jharkhand. It also serves as the administrative headquarters of Deoghar District in the state of Jharkhand, India. When it is the question about the religious beliefs, Deoghar has a special significance, for its oldest temple of Ravaneshwar Baba Baidyanath or also called as Ravaneshwar Mahadev. The city is bordered with Baba Jungle by the north, Nandan Pahar by the north-west, Trikut Hill by the east and several small hillocks to the south-east, south and south-west in Santal Parganas.
It is beliefs that, Devi's heart fell here in Deoghar. Mata Sati is prayed here as Jai Durga (locally called as Parvati and Durga) in the Baidyanath Dham temple campus. And the bhairav of Shakti is known as Baidyanath. Being one out of twelve Jyotirlingas, Baidyanath Temple is most prominent to Hindu communities. It is stated in Shiva Purana that one of the twelve Jyotirlingas was given to demon king Ravana to establish in his land. Due to certain reason he was unable to bring it out and gave this Jyotirlinga to Lord Vishnu at Harila Jori in Deoghar. Latter, this Linga was established about 8 km away from Harila Jori and now the place is renowned as Baba Dham or Baidyanath Temple. Except the Baba Baidyanath temple, another 21 temples are situated in the Baba Dham temple campus.
Every year, on the month of Shravan (mid-July to mid-August), millions of devotees across all over India to offer holy water of Ganga River on Shiva Lingam. This is a ritual by devotees to pour the Ganga water on the Shiva Lingam. They carry the water of Ganges from Sultanganj (about 105 km away from Deoghar) on empty foot to respect Lord Shiva. And a religious fair has been organized on the field near by the Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar. This is known as Shravani fair and it is renowned as the largest fair in the world, which continues a month-long time.

Baba Baidyanath Temple Complex is the main attraction in Deoghar. This complex is the associations of 22 temples include the Baidyanath temple. Baidyanath is the main temple in the complex which is renowned for its architectural beauty and elegance. Millennium of devotees arrives here during the festival of Shravan Mela. Nandan Hill is located in Deoghar famous for Nandi Temple. It has been beautifully maintained by the local administration. There have also a large beautiful children park. It is a picnic spot with some basic rides atop of the hill.
Naulakhya Temple is located about 1.6 km away from Baidyanath Temple. It is a Radha-Krishna Temple and it looks like the temple of Ramakrishna in Belur. 146 feet height idol of Radha-Krishna is major attraction in the temple.
Satsanga Ashram is located to the south west corner of Deoghar city. It is a holy place for devotees who fallow the law of Thakur Anukulchandra. There have also has a museum and a zoo with a temple for all religious.
Tapoban is located about 9 km away from Deoghar City. There is a temple of Shiva called as Taponath Mahadeva which is the centre of attraction for pilgrims. A number of caves are found in this hill. It is a picnic spot with some caves and lots of monkeys.
Rikhia Ashram was established by Swami Satyananda Saraswati. Thousand of devotees from different corners of the world participate in a fair an annual festival and ceremony which is held every year in late November to early December.
Shiva-Ganga is a pond placed just 201 meters next to the Baidyanath Temple. It is believed that the pond was created by Ravana when he was taking the Joytirlingam to his land.
Harila Jori is situated about 8 km north from Baidyanath temple and 4.5 km from Tower chowk. You will find here a Shiva Temple. This was the place where Ravana handed over the lingam to lord Visnu.
Trikuth Hill is located about 12 km away from Deoghar on the way to Dumka. Being three main peaks on the hill it is called as Trikutachal. The peaks maintain a height of about 1351 ft. There have a famous Shiva Temple and several Ashrams. This mountain also well communicated by the Ropeway services.
Dahijor Camp was constructed in 1975 8 km away from Deoghar on the way to Dumka road, There is a beautiful Shiva temple. That place surrounded by mountain and it is a perfect playground for football, basketball, hokey, and volleyball.

How to reach Deoghar City?
Travel by Railways
Jasidih Junction is the major railway station close to Deoghar city. It falls under Howrah-Delhi main line. All major express and passenger trains stop here. Other two important railway station namely Baidyanathdham and Deoghar station are connected to Jasidih Junction and these maintain a distance respectively 7km and 6km from this junction. Two new railway lines are under construction and these are extended from Deoghar railway station to Rampurhat and another to Sultanganj.
Travel by Roadways
Deoghar is a city in eastern India in the state of Jharkhand. It is well connected to all major points of eastern India by roadways like Ranchi, Patna, Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar, Jamshedpur, etc. there are some important cities close to Deoghar with distance - Kolkata 375 km, Giridih 62 km, Patna 283 km, Dumka 66 km, Madhupur 31km, Ranchi 252 km, etc. you will get regular buses from the above mentioned cities to Deoghar.
