Jammu City

Jammu-Kashmir valley is the Taj of Himalayas. It is not possible to describe the beauty of this valley in words. Jammu & Kashmir tour starts from Jammu. Jammu is the second largest city and also the capital city at winter session of Jammu & Kashmir state. Maharaja Jammulochon was established this city on ninth century of B.C. and the city also known as his name. The city is situated in between river Tawan and river Chandrabhaga.

Climate of Jammu

Mainly three sessions are widely available in Jammu – summer, winter and monsoon or rainy session. From April to June, it is experienced the summer with a average temperature about 30°C. some time it may beyond 45°C. and in winter (from October to mid of March), Jammu has experienced with a dramatic changeable temperature. At day time the temperature may arise at 25°C but it drastically fall at night, may be at 4 – 5°C. from July to September, it is mansoon - annual average rainfall may 110 cm.

Atraction

Jammu is known as the city of temple and also the city of forts. Fort Bahu is situated on the bank of river tawan, just 4 kilometers away from the Jammu city, which was built by king of Dogra Balulochon. It was built on more than three thousand years before. It was rebuilt by Maharaja Jammulochon. A mosque is situated on the entrance, which was built by Sultan Akbar. Two temple are also situated inside the fort, one is kali temple and another is Mahalakshmi Temple. A garden Bag-e-Bahu is located on the downstairs of the fort. Mubarak Mandi is located to the opposite side of the Bag-e-Bahu. It was the palace of maharaja Harisen.

Ramnagar Fort situated to the north of the Jammu city. A mosque is situated inside the fort, which was built by Raja Krishnadeva. Dogra art museum is in the Gandhi Bhaban. It is on the opposite side of secretariat.

Amar Mahal Palace, which was built on 1907 with the French culture, is located to the north of Jammu city. Now a days it is developed as a museum. Monday and other state holiday it is closed.

One of the most attractions in Jammu city, raghunathji temple is situated near by the Jammu bus stand. It was started to built by Maharaja Gulab Singh on 1835 and completed by his son Ranabir Singh on 1860. Another famous temple in Jammu is Ranabireswar temple of thousand Shivalinga, was built on 1883.

Apart them you can see natural cape Pir Kho, where the shivaling is not human created, Rajendra Park, Hari Singh Jenana Park are famous in Jammu city.

Accommodation and Night Stay

Jammu city is located with a little distance from Jammu railway station. From the outside of the railway station, you can manage bus or auto to reach at main Jammu city. There are many hotel, lodge and guest house near by the Jammu Bus stand. You can manage a very good two bedded room with a rent range between Rs. 500 to Rs. 2000. But Jammu & Kashmir Tourism department hotels are the best among all others. Rent may vary from a range of Rs. 600/- to Rs. 3,500/-. And you should remember that the check out time in Jammu city for all hotels is at 12 noon. There may have a 10% tax added on the base of rent. So, before you rent a room, should clarify it. Eat and Drink

For Kashmir and Chinese food, Premier and for only Chinese food Dragon is best. For Indian and continental food you can take a test from Quality and Silver inn. And for coffee and South-Indian food, “India Coffee House” is the best.

Kashmiri Silk and Woolen cloths are very famous and popular. So you can parchase it. You can also purchase furniture of Willow and walnut wood, nut, Walnuts (akhrot) and others various dry fruits. Badu Plaza and Governments Art Emporium at Residency Road are best place for your shopping.
