Indian Drama and Theatre

Drama and Theater of India is also older as other Indian arts. Indian first treatise named, Natya Shastra, was written by Bharat Muni around between 2nd century BC and 4th century AD. Some common fundamental elements which successfully handle a Drama or a Theatre are the thinking, theme, ideas; action or plot; characters; language; music; and spectacle.

There is several semi-professional and part-time theatre groups involved in staging plays in Indian regional languages or in English. Indian Theatre started as a narrative form that is reciting, singing and dancing becoming the essential part of the theatre. The emphasis on narrative elements made it more theatrical and encompassed all forms of literature and fine arts.

Bengali Theatre

Bengali drama and theater was the most legendary in India when the British ruler menace the people of India then the theatre in Bengal developed as a protest against the British Raj. Girish Ghosh was the creator of Bengali modern theater. Neel Darpan was the most famous drama and theater of Girish Ghosh. Nati Binodini was a great dramatist on this time. The famous stages in Bengali theatre still bear this rich history of Indian Natya vividly. The most famous theaters in Bengalee are Star Theatre, Academy Of Fine Arts, Rabindra Sadan, Girish Manch Etc.

Bengali drama and theatre that started as a protest against the British ruler gained much change to achieve today's stylish face and even today Bengali theatre is documented as a different art form.

Marathi Theatre

Marathi Drama and Theatre is always measured important in Indian drama after the Bengali Dramas. The first Marathi stage performance was the play Seeta Swayamvar done by Vishnudas Bhave in 1843. But it was more of an experimental form of theatre derived from the folk forms and the already existing Shakespearean and Parse dramas. After that it took almost three decades for Marathi theatre to put down its foundations. But the tradition of Marathi theatre in the true sense of the term is said to have started with the musical Shakuntal staged by Annasaheb Kirloskar in 1880.

There were many experimentál plays, which were written in such a way, that they rationalized the old medieval performance. This led to the formation of the professional Bhave Company. The Marathi drama was still a dominant feature of Western India and it soon became imbued with national self-awareness.

Prithvi and Indian Puppet Theatre

Prithvi Theatre was belongs to the Kapoor family which is one of the most important actor or director families in Bollywood. This theatre is devoted to the famous Prithvirâj Kapoor who brought the traditional drama and theater in Mumbai. Since that time, the Prithvi Theatre has endeavored to act as a medium to nurture and develop Indian theatre over the years.

Puppet Theater is one of the early forms of Indian entertainment. But, its artistic importance and conveying significant meaning cannot be denied. Indian Puppet Theater developed not only as an art form but also as an attempt of conveying a lot whilst uttering actually nothing. Puppet Theater, which has a rich history of its creativity, has slowly become a name in the rich timeline of Indian Natya with the appearance of this Indian puppetry as a characteristic visual art form.
