Bomdila is a Himalayan small town and also headquarter of West Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh, India. It is situated at an altitude of 2,217 m above sea level. It is a remote destination and now days it is a popular tourist spot among others north-eastern Himalayan tour spots. It is famous for its scenic vicinity, Tibetan Buddhist culture, apple orchards and ethnic people & there lifestyle.

Climate

Arunachal Pradesh is a state of northeastern region in India and Bomdila is located northeastern part of Arunachal Pradesh. It is set amongst the eastern Himalayas with an altitude of 2,217 m above sea level. So, you can experience an alpine weather at Bomdila. It has a very short term summers in between April and June but charming. Temperature does not cross maximum limit and humidity does not rise at high. But winter is extremely cold in between November and February. Some time sun does not comes for a week and snowfalls is common that time. It experiences monsoon between July and September.

The Nature Around
Bomdila is a hill station in Arunachal Pradesh. It is located in the range of east Himalayas and offers a magnificent panoramic view of the great Himalayan terrain with its snow-covered mountains. It is also famous for apple orchids. You can entrance into them for a walk and enjoy the gardens environments as well. Bomdila is also very popular to adventure lovers for trekking and hiking trails.

The Orchid Research and Development Station
Bomdila has an Orchid Research and Development Station at Tippi and two other Orchid conservation sanctuaries located at Sessa and Dirang valley. More than 200 varieties of orchids are available here. All are very valuable tourist attraction at Bomdila.

Buddhist Monasteries
Must visit places in Bomdila are three Buddhist Monasteries called Gompas – namely, lower, middle and upper Gompas. Lower Gompas are located at the end of the main market at Bomdila, Middle Gompas is situated at 2 kilometer away from there on the upward and Upper Gompas is located more upward from there on the hilly area. All Gompas give you an idea about a strong influence of Tibetan and Buddhist culture.

Craft Centre & Ethnographic Museum
A Craft Centre is located on the opposite of Lower Gompas, producing very fine colorful and wonderful 'dragon' designs carpets, Buddhist Tangkas(wall hangings) and masks. The Ethnographic Museum is another main attraction in Bomdila situated beside the Craft Centre.

Tawang Town
Tawang is a small town is located to the north of Bomdila. It is situated with an altitude of 3,400 meter above sea level and it is famous for its 400 year old Buddhist Monastery. The monastery was established on or before mid of 17th century. It is the major Buddhist center located in northeast India. The journey between Bomdila and Tawang takes the tourists through some out of this world destination - Dirang valley and the famous Sela Pass (4,300m).

How to reach Bomdila?

Road: Bomdila is located in a remote part in India. No railway station or airport is available here. But Bomdila is well connected with other towns in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam by road. Regular bus services of APSTC and ASTC are available at Bomdila with Tezpur of Assam and Tawang, Itanagar of Arunachal Pradesh. Tezpur to Guwahati has a direct Bus service. And Guwahati is well connected with all major cities in India by road, rail and also by air. You can also hire a private car from Guwahati or Tezpur to reach at Bomdila. It may take 8 hours to reach Bomdila from Guwahati and 4 hours from Tezpur.

Rail: Nearest railway station is at Tezpur of Assam, which is 160km away from Bomdila and at Rangapara. Some express trains are available to reach at Tezpur from rest of India. But it is well connected with Guwahati. And Guahati is well connected with all over India by rail.

Air: Nearest airport are at Tezpur and in Guahati. After arrive there you should follow road journey to reach at Bomdila.

Permission

Each and every tourist to Arunachal Pradesh has need permission to visit here. All domestic tourists or Indian citizen have to obtain ILP (Inner Line Permit) from the Dy. Commissioner of the concerned districts. And for the foreigners need to obtain the (RAP) Restricted Area Permit from the Ministry of External Affairs, India to tour in Arunachal Pradesh.
