If you plan to visit in Darjeeling on summer then you should take Light Woolen Cloths and for winter season you should take Heavy Woolens Cloths. You should carry an umbrella for a safe tour. Any time rain may come – whether it is summer, winter or rainy sessions.
Darjeeling is known as the Queen of Hills. It is one of the best hill stations in all over India. Siliguri is the main gateway to reach at Darjeeling. A domestic airport is located there, near by railway head New Jalpaiguri is just 11 kilometer away from Siliguri and also National Highway 31 passing over the city, by which north-east India connected with the rest of the country.
How to Reach
You can get taxi and local bus from Bagdogra airport to Siliguri. Taxi fare is Rs. 150.00 whether bus fare near about Rs. 10.00 per head.
Helicopter Service: STDC (Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation) operates a helicopter service in between Gangtak and Bagdogra, which take near about 30 minutes to go. Service time are 11:00 am from Gangtak to Bagdogra and at 2:00 pm from Bagdogra to Gangtak daily. And fare is Rs. 1500 a person.
By Rail: The nearest railway stations are New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri around 90 km and 80 km road distance respectivley. And all major cities in India are well connected with both railway stations, mainly New Jalpaiguri.
Distance between New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri is 12 km and will take 15 minutes to come Siliguri from New Jalpaiguri. You can get taxi and any other vehicles.
By Road :: Darjeeling is connected with Siliguri and Gangtok. There has three options to reach in Darjeeling from Siliguri –
You can follow any route which you wish. But we suggest, you should not use same route for the both journey, should follow two route – to cover more beautiful destination. In Siliguri, you can get mini bus, taxi and also shared jeep to reach at Darjeeling. You can take a private car too to reach at there. Siliguri is the getway to north-east India, so all over India is well connected with Siliguri by road. And also Nepal and Bhutan are well connected with Siliguri. A state road is passing from Siliguri to Kankarbhita in Nepal via Naxalbari and a bus service are available from Siliguri to Panitanki in India (Near by Kankorbkita). From Gangtak, taxis are available to reach at Darjeeling. It is mainly Tata Suma.
SBSTC, NBSTC, CSTC as well as some private bus services like Banerjee, Volvo and many more are available for go to Siliguri from Kolkata (Esplanade) every day. Both night course and day service are available. For night course fare may be Rs. 300/- per head in rocket service. And North Bengal State Transport Corporation Buses, Bhutan Govt. Buses, Mini Buses, Assam Transport Corporation Buses, Private Buses and Taxi are available from Siliguri to connect with north-east India and Bhutan.
Entry Formalities for Foreigners: You have no need any extra permission to visit in Darjeeling, but should carry your valid passport and visa with you.
