How to reach Rishikesh City?

Travel by Roadway
Rishikesh is well connected to Delhi by roadways. It takes around 6 hours (234 km) to reach Rishikesh from Delhi. You will get lots of private and government buses from the adjoining cities of Rishikesh like Haridwar (25 km), Dehradun (42 km), Mussoorie (76 km), Kedarnath (225 km), Yamunotri (237 km), Uttrakashi (155 km), Gangotri (248 km), Nainital (262 km), Shimla (261 km), Govindghat (277 km), Badrinath (303 km), etc. You can also hire a private care from above mentioned cities to Rishikesh. 

Travel by Airways
Jolly Grant Domestic Airport of Dehradun city is located about 16 km away from Rishikesh. It is a small airport but recently renovated to operate many flights from Delhi and its runway is being extended. If you are a tourist from abroad then the international airport of Delhi (Indira Gandhi Airport) will be suitable to you. After reaching Delhi you easily can access the city with a bus or a cab. 

Travel by Railways
There have a small railway station in Rishikesh and it has few branches. You will get only three trains from Haridwar, one train from Delhi and a train from Bandikui. Haridwar Railway station is a big station and it receives all the trains from major parts of India. And it situated just 24 km away from Rishikesh. So, best option to reach Rishikesh is to first reach to Haridwar by trains then you can hire a four wheeler to reach here.

Tour spots in and around Rishikesh

Rishikesh is very famous for Ayurvedic and Yoga treatments and sometimes the city also nicknamed as "the world capital of Yoga". This Ayurvedic and Yoga treatments attracts thousands of local and foreign tourists through out the year. Some major tourist spots of Rishikesh are discussed briefly bellow. 

Gita Bhawan is situated on the banks of Ganges by the side of Laxman Jhula on, amidst the Himalayan Mountains at Swargashram, Rishikesh. It is a very large complex comprising discussion halls and over 1000 rooms for devotees. There have no charges for the stay of devotees. Regular discourses are organized here. During the summer, day-long special Satsang programs are arranged. 

Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is located at the base of Himalayan at a height of 1331 meters about 31 km away from Rishikesh. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is surrounded by dense forests and is adjacent to the mountain ranges of Nar-Narayan. It is enveloped between the valleys of Manikoot, Brahmakoot and Vishnukoot and is located at the meeting point of two rivers Pankaj and Madhumatti. 

Lakshman Jhula: according to the Hindu mythology Ramayana, Lakshman crossed Ganga River through on a ropeway bridge. That is why this bridge is called as Lakshman Jhula. Today, it is an iron suspension bridge situated in Rishikesh in Indian state of Uttarakhand. you also found another a similar bridge near this bridge which called as Ram Jhula. 

Swarg Ashram, literally mean Heavenly Adobe (Swarg – Heaven and Ashram - abode), is a beautiful place situated on the base of Himalayas by the left bank of the Ganga River between Rishikesh and Lakshman Jhula. It is a religious place provides all type of facilities to its residents. There have a hospital, library, primary health center, garden, dispensary every necessity in daily life. 

Triveni Ghat is a meeting place of three Rivers namely, the Ganga, the Yamuna and the Saraswati. There have no existence of Saraswati River but Hindus believe it as a invisible river. Triveni Ghat is very sacred for Hindus. They believe that if someone takes a dip in this Ghat then he will have salvation, a relief from all sins.
