Ranikhet Hill Station, Uttarakhand

Ranikhet, literally mean "Queen’s Meadow" (Rani - Queen and Khet - Meadow), is a small hill station with an area of 21.77 sq km and it located in the Almora district, Uttaranchal, India. It has an average elevation of 1830 meters above mean sea level. The healthy environment, tall conifer trees, endless green meadows and placid surroundings makes Ranikhet a unique hill station and these draws thousands of tourists both local and foreign throughout the year. Ranikhet is the home of a Military Hospital, Kumaon Regiment (KRC) & a Naga Regiment.

In 1869, British Ruler proposed Ranikhet as the summer headquarters of Government of India as it becomes very cold in the winters when snowfall is very common. But the summer season from March to October, Ranikhet receives a comfortable whether when temperature stay at near 30°C. So, this season is prefer to best to visit Ranikhet. You will find here the forests of pine, oak, and deodar which host an array of wildlife including leopard, leopard cat, mountain goat, barking deer, pine marten, Indian hare, red-faced monkey, jackal, red fox, porcupine, etc.

Travel by Airways
Pantnagar domestic Airport is closer to Ranikhet located about 118 km away from this hill station. After reaching to this airport you have to hire a private cabs or taxis, there have no direct bus services to Ranikhet. 

Travel by Railways
Kathgodam Railway station is closer to Ranikhet hill located about 84 km away from the hill station. Kathgodam is well connected to other major cities of India like Lucknow, Delhi and Kolkata. After reaching to this railway station you have to hire a private cab or taxi. Regular bus services also available here from this station to Ranikhet.

Travel by Roadways
Ranikhet is well connected by motor-able road network with major cities of Uttarakhand and major cities of North India. NH 24 connects Ranikhet to Delhi via Rampur and Moradabad. Another important highway, NH 87 connects Ranikhet to Kathgodam via Rudrapur and Haldwani. You will get regular buses from Haldwani, Kathgodam, Bhimtal, Bhowali, Khairna and Nainital to Ranikhet.

Tour spots in and around Ranikhet

Ranikhet golf course is one of the biggest golf courses in India as well as in Asia. It is a nine-hole course making it one of the prime attractions of Ranikhet. The green field of the golf course with its high altitude will give you inspiring experience. Ranikhet golf course is located just close to the Kalika temple. Any one from outside Ranikhet can be collect membership plans here. 

Jhula Devi Temple was constructed during 8th century respect to mother goddess Durga. It is believe that if any one asks for something he gets it and on fulfillment of his desire ties a bell in the temple. Ram Mandir is situated very close to Jhula Devi Mandir. 

Chaubattia Garden is a world famous Apple garden located about 9 km away from Ranikhet. This garden also produces several other fruits besides of apple like apricots, peaches and various alpine fruits. You can buy fresh fruit juices and honey from this Garden. A visit to the research laboratory of the garden is a worth watch. 

Hairakhan Temple is located about 4 Km away from Ranikhet Hill Station. It was constructed by Sri Hairakhan Maharaj. This temple is dedicated to lord Shiva. The superb views of the enormous Himalayans are clearly visible from the Temple. The GD Birla Memorial School is close to this temple. 

Binsar Mahadev Temple is situated about 16 Km away from Ranikhet. This is a Shiva temple and a ashram of Binsar Mahadev also found here. You will found here a beautiful river flowing just close to the Temple which adds amazement to the natural beauteousness of this sacred place. 

KRC (Kumaon Regimental Centre) Museum was established in 1970. This museum showcases the history of Kumaon and Garhwal regiments. It also displays valuable treasures like Rani Jhasi's silver scepter, Chinese rifles from the 1962 war, a World War-II Japanese wireless field telephone and documents related to the Kargil War.

Some other important tourist attractions around Ranikhet are Syalikhet (24 km from Ranikhet), Katarmal Sun Temple (24 km from Ranikhet), Dronagiri & Pandavkholi (53 km from Ranikhet) and Bhalu Dham.
