How to Reach Pelling

By Road: Pelling is well-connected to Gangtok, Darjeeling, and Siliguri by the all-weather metalled road. Reserved cabs are easily available from all nearby cities and towns. Due to the stiff road between Siliguri and Pelling, it is advisable to hire a cab (Sumo, Bolero, Innova or Xylo), and try to avoid state transport run government bus. It takes about 5 hours and 30 minutes to reach Pelling via Melli and Jorthang from Siliguri. SNT buses from Siliguri is available till Geyzing. And then you have another 9 km journey to Pelling. You can get a shared cab or a reserved cab to Pelling regularly during the daytime from Geyzing.

Shared jeeps (not regular) are also available from Siliguri Taxi Stand (nearby the Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminal) with a fare of Rs 300/- per head. No shared cabs are available from Siliguri after 2:00 pm in this route. If a direct shared cab is unavailable, then take a cab to reach Jorethang with a fare of Rs. 150.00 per head and take another shared cab for Pelling. But, it is only possible, if you reached at Jorethang on or before 1:00 pm. In that case, find a cab for Geyzing and take another shared cab from Geyzing to Pelling. There are regular jeep services from Gangtok to Pelling. The taxi stands for the West Sikkim located near to the Gangtok police headquarters.

By Rail: New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is the nearest railway station to Pelling, about 136 km road distance. Major cities in India such as, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi are directly connected with New Jalpaiguri (NJP) by train. Darjeeling Mail, Padatik Express, Kanchan Kanya Express from Kolkata and Rajdhani Mail between New Delhi and Guwahati are well-known among them. Reserved taxi (Tata Sumo, Bolero, Innova, Xylo or small car) are easily available from the outside of the NJP railway station to reach Pelling. If you wish to travel by shared cab, then Siliguri about 8 km away from NJP, is the best destination.

By Air: Bagdogra Airport (IXB) is the nearest airport to Pelling, about 141 km driving distance. There have many domestic flights from all major cities, such as Kolkata, Guwahati, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. From the Airport, hire a private cab or a shared taxi (mostly available from Siliguri, about 15 km) to reach Pelling.
